Libya to Appoint New Central Bank Governor Within 30 Days after UN Talks

Libya’s legislative bodies have agreed to appoint a new central bank governor within 30 days after UN sponsored talks, a statement signed by representatives of those bodies said Sep. 3, cited by Reuters.

  • This could pave the way for a reopening of oil production which has been blocked in protests at the removal of the previous governor.
  • Any move would pave the way for ~500,000 bpd of Libyan oil to return to the markets.
