OIL: Nigeria Seeking Operators for State-Owned Refineries: Reuters

Nigeria’s NNPC said it has started the tender process for operation of the 125k b/d Warri and 110k b/d Kaduna refineries, Reuters said.

  • Both oil refineries are being upgraded after being mothballed for several years.
  • Nigeria is looking to revamp its refining to be more self-sustainable in oil products production. Despite being Africa’s largest oil producer, the country had lacked refining capabilities to process its own oil.
  • The tendering process for the Port Harcourt oil refinery opened in January and is currently ongoing.
  • Meanwhile, the privately owned 650k b/d Dangote refinery is expected to reach full operations by mid-September and is doing test runs for gasoline production.
