OIL: RBC Points to Middle East Concerns for Oil

OIL

Lebanon is the story to watch in the Middle East that potentially draws Iran deeper into the conflict according to RBC’s head of global commodity strategy Helima Croft in a CNBC interview this week.

  • “Iran are concerned about a liquidation of its most important proxy in the region,” Croft said.
  • “We have had any major disruptions to energy supply, that’s why this story has been put on the backburner,” she added.
  • “Given the fact we are potentially on the precipice of a real second front in this war, I think market participants should be showing much greater attention again,” Croft said.
  • The China story has been a really big drag on sentiment while the Fed rate cut is a boost for oil but “right now we need to watch out for what’s happening in the Middle East,” Croft added.
