Olmeca Refinery Unlikely to Begin in April: Argus

It is unlikely that the 340k b/d Olmeca refinery will commence operations in April as promised by Mexico’s president AMLO, as the refinery has not yet met several deadlines established by both Pemex and the government, Argus said.

  • The diesel desulphurisation unit is ready for operations, but the refinery’s CDU continues to have issues, sources told Argus.
  • While it is not clear when operations will begin, Mexico appears ready to cut its exports of heavy Maya crude, altering the established flows of crude from the country to the US.
