Oman’s Duqm Refinery on Track to Run Above Capacity: Argus

OIL PRODUCTS

Oman’s 230k b/d Duqm refinery is looking to operate at 10% above its nameplate capacity and is considering diversifying its product portfolio, according to the operator, cited by Argus.

  • The Omani-Kuwaiti joint venture OQ8’s CEO David Bird told Argus that the capacity expansion would be pursued in the near term, with some already opening in coking and hydrocracker units.
  • “We may even look at intermediate feedstocks and bring in VGOs and residues in order to load up these two conversion units," Bird said.
  • Bird added that Duqm may add new products to its existing focus of jet fuel, gasoil, naphtha, and LPG.
  • The refinery reached full capacity in February. 45% of its diesel exports go to East Africa, but loadings to Europe have recently started with the refinery able to produce winter-grade diesel.
