OMV Insists on Slovakia/Austria Delivery Location with Gazprom

OMV’s long term Gazprom contract requires delivery at the border between Slovakia and Austria, a location it will insist upon for future deliveries its CEO said earlier Thursday.

  • OMV’s transit agreement with Russia expires at the end of the year, driving fears of a cut off in supplies and further tightening the European energy security situation.
  • OMV’s CEO Alfred Stern said he had no knowledge of what will happen with the upcoming Ukraine/Gazprom gas transit agreement also set to expire at the end of the year.
  • The Austrian company continues to assure customers it has other options for gas and is not reliant on Russia despite it account for +80% of supplies.
  • Germany’s Uniper was awarded more than €13 billion ($14 billion) in damages this week for Russian gas volumes not supplied by Gazprom PJSC since mid-2022 - raising uncertainty in the market over remaining flows to Europe.
