OPEC+ Production Falls Further Below Target

OPEC+ crude oil output rises 260kbpd in August compared to the OPEC commitment of a 648kbpd increase according to a Platts survey.

  • OPEC+ members are still significantly underproducing despite the increase to the highest since Apr 2020. Output is 3.6mbpd below target.
  • OPEC's 13 members produced 29.56mbpd in August, up 480kbpd from July according to the survey. Non-OPEC production fell 220kbpd to 13.28mbpd.
  • Many OPEC+ producers are struggling with technical problems, a lack of investment, or internal unrest.
  • Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait boosted output in line with targets with falls in output from Kazakhstan and Nigeria
