Outgoing Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha Resigns From Politics

The Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (United Thai Nation Party or UTN) confirms that caretaker Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha, who led the military coup in 2014, resigns from politics and steps down as party member.

  • In a statement posted on UTN's Facebook page, General Prayuth thanks his supporters and party members and says that he has decided to retire from politics after a nine-year stint as Prime Minister.
  • Prayuth has been a member of the newly created UTN after quitting the ruling Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) earlier this year. Both pro-military parties performed worse than expected in the recent general election.
