Pakistan Discount Requests for Russian Oil Deemed too High

Pakistan has been in talks with Russia recently to buy its oil but requests of 30-40% discounts have been rejected by Moscow according to reports from The News International.

  • Pakistan's official delegation left for Moscow on November 29 on a three-day visit to talk with the Russian authorities to discuss the possibility of importing crude oil at a discounted price.
  • Russia said they were unable to offer anything because all volumes were committed at present.
  • Spiraling costs of energy have left Pakistan unable to compete on international markets – especially for LNG. They were hoping to begin purchasing discounted energy supplies from Russia to help combat higher energy prices.
