Parliament Resumes Session, Unemployment Rate Slips

  • Seznam Zpravy reports that lawmakers may vote on the government's pension reforms next week at the earliest, following a marathon of speeches and the submission of two dozen amendments by the opposition yesterday. During Tuesday's debate, Labour & Social Affairs Minister Marian Jurecka argued that "changes need to be made so that even the children and grandchildren of current pensioners have a chance to have pensions from the current system."
  • Data from the Employment Office showed that Czechia's unemployment fell to 3.4% in June from 3.5% prior, in line with the consensus call. The most recent data from Eurostat suggest that the country has the lowest jobless rate among all EU countries.
  • The lower house continues session today, debating the government's austerity measures. Meanwhile, a Cabinet meeting is scheduled for this afternoon.
