Pheu Thai Under Pressure To Start Talks On Cabinet Portfolio Allocation

Pheu Thai Party (PTP) Secretary General Prasert Chantararuangthong said that negotiations on the allocation of Cabinet seats will only take place after he PM vote, despite pressure from coalition partners to start the talks before the vote.

  • The PTP is still planning to nominate Srettha Thavisin as its PM candidate. According to Prasert, the party believes that lower house members "who will support the PTP's PM candidate should number about 270."
  • A source told the Bangkok Post that Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha could set the new date for the next PM vote as soon as today. The vote would need to be announced on Tuesday in order to be held by the end of the week.
  • It remains unclear how the Move Forward Party (MFP) will vote, but its top brass were due to discuss the matter today. The party said that the door is still open for the PTP to return to an MFP-led pro-democracy coalition.
