PM Deploys Fleet, Puts Military On Alert Over Turkish Naval Actions

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated on August 12 that the Greek naval fleet had been deployed in the Easter Mediterranean and the country's armed forces put on alert.

  • This follows days of ratcheting tensions between historic adversaries Greece and Turkey regarding disagreements hydrocarbon rights and maritime borders in the Eastern Med.
  • Mitsotakis: "We hope logic will finally prevail in our neighbouring country, so that honest dialogue can begin,"
  • PM went onto say the increased activity in the region raises the prospect of a "military accident".
