PM Johnson Requested Calls w/ Macron & Merkel, Rebuffed By Both: RTRS

Reuters reports that according to a 'senior EU official', on Monday UK PM Boris Johnson requested telephone calls with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an effort to get a Brexit deal across the line. However, this request was rebuffed by both, as all negotiations must go through the European Commission.

  • Another sign that the UK gov'ts unstated desire to have member states try to pressure the EU to reach a deal has failed to pay dividends.
