POLAND: Duda Meets Chinese Leaders, Retail Sales Data On Tap

  • President Andrzej Duda leads a delegation for a six-day visit in China, during which he will hold talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. Polish officials will discuss issues ranging from trade to security with their Chinese counterparts, with Polish media suggesting that Duda wanted to touch upon the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as well as the migration pressure exerted on the Polish border by migration flows controlled by Russia and Belarus.
  • Statistics Poland will release the second batch of economic activity data for May, including construction output and retail sales, at 09:00BST/10:00CEST. Data from the first batch released late last week were mostly in line with expectations, save for industrial output, which provided some disappointment.
  • The executives of the Left Together party decided to stay part of the Left's parliamentary caucus, despite tensions with colleagues from the New Left. However, they decided to open talks with the New Left on whether further cooperation is possible, in light of the leftist camp's failure to leverage its participation in the government to implement key campaign pledges (Left Together is not part of the governing coalition but supports it on a confidence & supply basis).
