POLAND: MPC’s Maslowska Can’t Rule Out Rate Cut in 2025

POLAND
  • Speaking in an interview cited by PAP, MPC member Gabriela Maslowska said caution is needed in decisions, but it is not excluded that the possibility of a rate cut will arise in 2025. “I can imagine a situation in which the strength of the arguments for a reduction in interest rates will be so convincing that a cut will become very real. However, there is still quite a long way to go for this to happen,” she said.
  • The comments are broadly in-line with her previous messaging. She said in an interview with Bloomberg in late-June that she hopes that lower borrowing costs would happen next year.
  • The Polish government will discuss a 2025 budget draft at its weekly meeting today (09:00BST/10:00CET). As a reminder, the head of prime minister’s office said in an interview earlier this week that cabinet will approve a draft at the end of the week.
  • There are no data releases scheduled for today. The final reading of Q2 GDP will cross tomorrow, with CPI figures for July on the docket Friday. The latter is seen unchanged at +4.2% Y/Y.
