POLAND: NBP in Focus, But No Change Expected at Tomorrow’s Announcement

POLAND
  • Echoing themes seen in Rzeczpospolita yesterday, PAP cites a CBOS survey in reporting a strengthening labour market across the second half of the year, with 20% of respondents now concerned of losing their job, down from 25% in the prior month. Perceptions of job security also improved.
  • A NATO source appeared to talk against comments from foreign minister Sikorski, who yesterday defended Poland’s obligations to defend their citizens by intercepting missiles in Ukrainian airspace – with the NATO source urging Poland to consult with NATO at all times, according to PAP.
  • NBP stats show that banks granted PLN 9.1bln in consumer loans across July, up from PLN 8.6bln the month prior, and up from PLN 7.5bln in July last year.
  • Several local outlets run pieces on the NBP rate decision, with very few predicting any change in policy this week, or this year. Some titles do sound somewhat exasperated e.g. Business Insider’s “How much longer are we going to have to wait for rate cuts?”
