Poland’s Hard Coal Sales Drop on Month, Year

Poland’s hard coal sales in May edged down by around 5% on the month, with sales also falling compared to May 2023, data from Poland ARP show, cited by ISB news.

  • Poland’s hard coal sales amounted to 3.1 mn/t in May down from 3.27 mn/t in April and 3.32 mn/t sold in the same month last year.
  • Net hard coal production also fell, dropping to 3.3 mn /t in May compared to 3.49 mn/t in the previous month and 3.88 mn/t in May 2023.
  • But coal stocks rose, increasing to 5.3 mn/t from 5.15 mn/t in April and sharply up from 2.46 mn/t a year earlier.
  • Poland anticipates coal to be “cheap” during the heating season amid higher stockpiles and further contracted deliveries of coal, the Polish Ministry of Trade said in early May.
