Politics At The Fore

MYR

Spot USD/MYR has added 85 pips in early trade, following Friday's uptick in the gauge of greenback strength. The rate last trades at MYR4.1440, with the local headline flow dominated by political manoeuvres of Malaysia's Premier.

  • PM Ismail Sabri will ink a moratorium of understanding with opposition leaders this afternoon after proposing a sweeping political reform package. His attempts to establish a working relationship with the opposition may help bolster the stability of his Cabinet.
  • Malaysia's parliament reconvenes for its fourth session today. Director-General of Health Noor Hisham said that health authorities in cooperation with the parliament have developed a set of standards operating procedures to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission during the sitting.
  • Bulls would be pleased by further gains past the 100-DMA at MYR4.1633, which would bring the 50-DMA at MYR4.1996 into view. Bears need a retreat under MYR4.1300, the low print of Sep 10, before taking aim at the 200-DMA, which intersects at MYR4.1183.
