  • TD Securities sees CAD41b deficit that's around govt fiscal anchors and says "we believe the government would prefer to keep its powder dry with the next federal election expected in 2025."
  • BOC last week again suggested major government spending could influence inflation fight, while saying a rate cut is possible in June.
  • Foreign interference inquiry hearings could re-ignite tensions with India and China. Last week's hearings mostly focused on Trudeau's testimony. He said he didn’t see a major threat, but also he didn’t read security briefings in great detail.
  • Freeland announces some first-time homebuyers can extend amortization to 30 years. Economists note this is symbolic since that's a small share of lending.
  • Polling aggregator 338Canada shows Conservatives likely to win majority government if an election were held now. Election is due in 2025 under traditional four-year mandate.
