Poll Shows Centre-Left Candidate Well Placed To Take Rome Mayoralty

ITALY

Latest poll from BiDiMedia for the upcoming municipal election in Rome shows centre-left candidate Roberto Gualtieri well placed to take a second-round win, ousting incumbent 5-Star Movement Mayor Virginia Raggi. The first round is set for 3-4 October, with a second round run-off possible on 17-18 October.

  • Polls are showing Enrico Michetti, backed by the populist League, right-wing Brothers of Italy, and centre-right Forza Italia gaining a plurality in the first round, but then losing to second-placed Gualtieri (backed by the centre-left Democratic Party, the environmentalist Greens, and left-wing Italian Socialist Party) in a second-round run-off.
  • Rome municipal election poll (1st round): Enrico Michetti (Centre-Right Coalition): 31.3%, Roberto Gualtieri (Centre-Left Coalition): 26.9%, Virginia Raggi (M5S-inc): 19.6%, Carlo Calenda (Liberal Coalition): 15.7%. BiDiMedia, 31/08/21
  • 2nd round: Gualtieri (Centre-Left Coalition): 55%, Michetti (Centre-Right Coalition): 45%. BiDiMedia, 31/08/21
  • No polls carried out so far show incumbent Mayor Raggi making the second round, with most M5S voters apparently switching their support to Gualtieri in the second round to keep the centre-right out.
