POWER: EdF Halts 915MW Tricastin Reactor on Demand, Fuel Saving

EdF is halting operations at the 915MW Tricastin nuclear rector on Thursday and Friday, remit data showed, due to low demand and to save fuel, EdF told Bloomberg. 

  • The reactor is currently scheduled to be offline 22 Aug 01:30 CET until 23 Aug 17:30 CET. 
  • The duration of the shutdown will be re-evaluated depending on changes in power demand, EdF said. 
  • French power demand this week will fall 9% from a peak earlier in the month, when hot weather boosted cooling demand. Sunday is forecast to be the coldest day in France since mid-July, weighing on demand. 
  • Power demand on Sunday is forecast at 30.74GW to 42.3GW, RTE data showed. 
  • Bloomberg is forecasting demand on Sunday as low as 27.4GW.
