POWER: France Oct Power Plunges This Week

The French October power base-load contract is tracking a weekly net decline of above 13%, with weakness from the European energy complex as well as EdF’s upward revision in its nuclear output expectations as well as the confirmation that Flamanville 3 will begin divergence operations.

  • Germany Base Power OCT 24 up 1.9% at 83.5 EUR/MWh
  • TTF Gas OCT 24 up 2.3% at 37.03 EUR/MWh
  • Nuclear availability in France increased to 72% of capacity as of Friday morning, up from 71% on Thursday morning, RTE data showed, cited by Reuters.
  • The unplanned IFA 2 Tourbe-Daedalus interconnector outage has been extended by seven days until 13 September 22:59 CET.
  • The latest 6-10 days ECMWF weather forecast for Paris suggested mean temperatures have been revised down at the start of the forecast period. Mean temperatures are forecast to remain broadly in line with normal until 6 Sept, before rising above normal until 8 Aug, after which temperatures are forecast to fall below normal.
  • Power demand in France is forecast to peak at 52.28GW on Friday and fall to a peak of 48.52GW and 46.35GW on Saturday and Sunday, Entso-E data showed.
  • In France, wind output is forecast to rise this weekend to 3.38GW on Saturday and to 6.71GW on Sunday during base load. Solar PV output is forecast to fall to 5.88GW and 6.15GW during peak load on Saturday and Sunday respectively according to SpotRenewables.
