POWER: French November Nuclear Output Tracks 19% YoY Rise

France’s average nuclear generation so far this month stood at 45.3GW, tracking a year-on-year increase of almost 19% compared with all of November 2023.
- French nuclear output this month is tracking the highest level for any month since January 2024, when output averaged 48.11GW.
- Nuclear reactor availability stood at 82% of capacity on 28 November, RTE data showed, cited by Reuters.
- Nuclear output in France offset lower renewables output on the year this month.
- Combined offshore and onshore wind output averaged 5.83GW so far this month, compared with 8.33GW for all of November 2023. Solar PV output edged slightly higher on the year by 314MW to 1.61GW.
- Gas-fired generation in France has been broadly stable on the year so far in November to average 3.64GW.
- Power demand in France on 1-27 November averaged 53.16GW, up from 52.95GW for all of November last year.
- Looking ahead to this winter, BNEF forecasts French nuclear output to be stable on the year this winter to average 42.5GW. However, BNEF’s forecast for November came in slightly lower at 40.7GW, than the actual generation so far this month.
- French power demand is forecast to average 55.6GW this winter, which would be down by 1.4% on the year according to BNEF.
