POWER: IEA Said Goal to Double Energy Efficiency, Triple Renewables Feasible
POWER
The COP 28 goals to global triple renewable energy capacity and to double energy efficiency by 2030 are feasible due to favourable economics, ample manufacturing potential and strong policies according to the IEA.
- “To unlock the full benefits of the tripling goal, countries need to make a concerted push to build and modernise 25 million kilometres of electricity grids by 2030... The world would also need 1,500GW of energy storage capacity by 2030,” the IEA said.
- The report stressed the need for more country-specific approaches to achieve the target to double energy efficiency by the end of the decade, which could reduce global emissions by 6.5bn tonnes.
- The study showed that fully achieving the COP28 goals for renewables and efficiency would reduce global emissions by 10bn tonnes by 2030.
