POWER

Italian hydropower reserves last week – calendar week 38 – edged lower by 0.11TWh to 3.12TWh, widening the difference to the five-year average.

  • Stocks widened the deficit to the five-year average to 0.10TWh, compared with 0.03TWh the week prior.
  • The deficit to 2023 levels also widened to 0.32TWh, compared with 0.14TWh the week before.
  • Power demand in Italy averaged 31.64GW in week 37, falling sharply from 35.42GW the week before.
  • Hydro output from pumped storage declined by 209MW last week to 445MW. Output from reservoirs edged down by 93MW to 625MW.
  • Hydro run-of-river generation declined last week by 1.24GW to 3.69GW.
  • Solar output in Italy last week decreased by 594MW to 3.05MW, while wind output fell by 3.09GW to 878MW.
  • Gas-fired generation in Italy last week increased by 3.62GW to 12.72GW.
  • Italian power demand last week stood at 30.38GW, down from 31.55GW the week before.
  • Stocks declined despite above-average precipitation in Torino – close to Italy’s hydro intensive region – with precipitation totalling 38.1mm last week, compared with the seasonal normal of 9mm.
  • Looking forward, ECMWF weather forecasts for Torino suggested heavy rainfalls this week totalling 50.6mm, well above the seasonal average of 10.4mm.
