POWER: Italy to Propose Renewable Scheme for Energy Intensive Industries

POWER

Italy will propose a framework next month to cut energy costs for energy-intensive industries and boost renewable projects starting in 2025, a source told Montel.

  • Italy’s energy ministry will outline rules and contracts in its October proposal, requiring approval by ministerial decree.
  • The scheme price would likely be set at around €60-65/MWh.
  • Additionally, the scheme will allow energy-intensive firms to form groups to bid for energy and use a system that supports PPAs in Italy, the source said. The exact duration of the PPAs is to be determined.
  • The new capacity will come from solar, wind, and hydropower plants with at least 200kW or from upgrades boosting power by 200kW.
