POWER: Spain, Finland to Take PPA Demand from Italy

POWER

Spain and Finland are primed to take PPA demand from Italy amid surging power demand from data centres and lower energy prices that will draw attention from costlier areas, market participants said, cited by Montel.

  • “Finland probably has the best mix of business friendliness, low prices and weather for data centres, head of trading at Reel Edoardo Simioni said.
  • And Spain’s cheap and renewable energy supply would “entice renewable hydrogen and data centre investments”, said LevelTen.
  • Data centre growth and increased electrification could lift Europe’s power demand by 40-50% in the 2023-2030 period, Goldman Sachs estimated earlier this year.
  • However, Italy doesn’t seem attractive currently amid high spot power prices compared to other EU countries.
  • Spain Base Power SEP 24 down 0.3% at 87.05 EUR/MWh
  • Italy Base Power SEP 24 up 1.5% at 120.8 EUR/MWh
