TotalEnergies and Equinor are eying investing in new German gas-fired power plants, the firms told Montel. 

  • “We wish to acquire flexible electricity production capacities in Germany to complement our portfolio of projects and integrated electricity,” a TotalEnergies spokesperson told Montel.
  • “We will follow closely the process and development of framework conditions for CCGTs [combined cycle gas turbine units] in Germany and other markets and will assess the options,” a spokesperson told Montel.
  • German plans to launch the first tender for new hydrogen-ready gas power plants in early 2025, a consultation paper showed in September.
