President Boluarte Expected To Testify Before Prosecutors Today

  • President Boluarte is expected to testify before prosecutors today regarding the illegal enrichment case against her. This follows the votes in congress yesterday, where the two motions to advance impeachment proceedings against her were rejected. The first motion was rejected by 49 votes against to 33 in favour, while the second was rejected by 59 votes against to 32 in favour, in both cases falling short of the 40% of votes needed to move forward.
  • In other news, Peru’s investment agency said that a Spanish consortium will build a $3.4bn road project in the country, the agency’s largest in 10 years. Of the total, $2.3bn will be investment and $1.1bn other costs. The concession will last 30 years.
  • Data wise, the domestic calendar remains empty today. Focus turns to next Thursday’s BCRP monetary policy meeting, where the committee may decide to extend the recent pause in the easing cycle following stronger than expected CPI inflation data.
