President Milei Will Split His Executive Decree If Rejected By Lower House

  • In an interview with LN+ on Sunday, President Milei said he will split his executive decree into seven parts if it is rejected by the lower house in an upcoming vote. This is the emergency deregulation decree of more than 300 measures aimed at deregulating the economy, which have been in place since late December. Milei’s comments follow a 42-25 vote to reject the decree in the Senate last week. A simple majority vote in the Lower House would now see the decree scrapped.
  • In other news, the country’s airline pilots will hold a 48-hour strike starting March 28, according to Clarin. The Argentine Airline Pilots Association called the strike after the government and company officials failed to respond to its calls for an increase in salaries.
  • Today, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino will meet with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and other officials in Kuala Lumpur as part of her first official Asia tour.
