Putin May Hold Presser and Q&A on Dec 14; CPI Data on the Docket

  • RBC report that President Putin may hold his big press conference on December 14. The press conference and direct line (Q&A event) will take place ahead of the presidential elections, which are scheduled for March 17 2024, and would be the first since the invasion of Ukraine.
  • The EU’s executive told member states that the United Arab Emirates has agreed to restrict the re-export to Russia of sensitive goods used for military purposes in Ukraine, Bloomberg report. The European Commission briefed EU ambassadors on the development this week, according to people familiar with the matter. Turkey is considering a similar measure, the people said. The moves would cover direct re-exports and would signify a win for Ukraine’s allies, which are trying to cut off the flow of military goods to Russia.
  • The total volume of trading in major currencies on the Moscow Exchange amounted to RUB6.4trln in October, Kommersant report, the second highest since the invasion of Ukraine. Yuan trading was the main driver of turnover growth and now the Chinese currency occupies 50% of the market, the newspaper write.
