Putin to Meet Iranian President amid Mid-East Outreach

Vladimir Putin will hold talks in Moscow today with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who will arrive in Russia on a working visit.

  • The leaders will focus on current agenda of bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on the implementation of promising joint projects in the trade and economic sphere, including transport and energy.
  • Both states are under sanctions, affecting their oil production and exports.
  • Meanwhile, Putin himself has been in the Middle East, visiting the UAE and Saudi Arabia, a rare visit outside of Russia, the CIS or China.
  • During his trip, “the parties reaffirmed their agreements within the OPEC+ framework and agreed to continue interaction”, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
  • "Practical agreements had been achieved literally a week before at the OPEC+ level, and [...] those agreements have now been reaffirmed and reconfirmed," Peskov added.
  • Saudi agreed to continue its production cut of 1m b/d, while Russia will make a voluntary crude export reduction of 300k b/d and a products export cut of 200k b/d from May-June levels.
