Pyongyang Test-Fires Apparent Ballistic Missile Into East Sea

NORTH KOREA

North Korea fired an unidentified projectile into the East Sea, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

  • South Korea's military did not initially comment on the type or range of the projectile, but Japan Coast Guard said in a separate statement that it may have been a ballistic missile.
  • The launch comes after a series of missile tests in recent weeks, which included test-firing a projectile described by Pyongyang as a new "hypersonic missile."
