Regional Election Results In Focus, NBP's Wnorowski To Speak

POLAND
  • Official vote count in Poland's regional and local elections is ongoing, but exit polls suggested that Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Civic Coalition (KO) should take control of more regional assemblies, even as the main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) likely garnered the largest number of votes in the whole country. KO's Rafal Trzaskowski easily secured re-election as Mayor of Warsaw, fuelling existing rumours that he might become the ruling party's 2025 presidential candidate. Meanwhile, the second and third largest cities will witness mayoral run-offs in two weeks' time. Click here to see more details.
  • President Andrzej Duda told DGP that he is not expecting any "reset" of the Constitutional Tribunal, because the ruling coalition has not proposed any plan that could receive broad approval on the domestic political scene. On the geopolitical front, he noted that if Poland builds sufficient deterrence capabilities, it should be able to prevent any potential Russian aggression.
  • NBP's Henryk Wnorowski will speak in an interview with Biznes24 TV from the top of the hour. We may expect comments from MPC members to start trickling through in the coming days as the blackout period after the recent MPC meeting has now expired.
  • At 13:00BST/14:00CEST the National Bank of Poland (NBP) will release the minutes of a monetary policy meeting held in March.
