RENEWABLES: Lobby Group Urges EU to Prioritise EU Solar PV Manufacturing

The European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) has urged Ursula von der Leyen to prioritize the EU PV manufacturing among the priorities for the new mandate of the European Commission, it said. 

  • The group argues the sector is currently suffering challenges due to oversupply of unsustainably priced PV modules from China.
  • ESMC is requesting a EU buy-out facility to ensure uptake for EU made PV products, to introduce appropriate trade defence measures for the sector, a VAT reduction for resilient and sustainable PV modules and products, competitive industrial power price across the EU PV value chain and energy security measures for the inverters deployed in the EU market.
