Renewables to account for 70% of Italy’s Power Mix by 2035: GlobalData

Italy’s total renewable installed capacity is anticipated to reach 162.7GW by 2035, with the share of renewables in its power mix climbing to 69% as Italy reduces its dependency on Russian natural gas, according to a study by GlobalData.

  • Italy is expected to have 107.7GW of renewable capacity by 2030, with the share of renewables in its total annual generation mix reaching around 59% by the same decade.
  • The share of thermal generation in its power mix is anticipated to drop to less than 40% in 2035 from about 60% in 2023.
  • And “Italy remains committed to eliminating coal-powered plants by 2025,” GlobalData said.
  • Italy is targeting 93.2GW of renewables by 2030, with solar PV accounting for 50GW and wind at 19.3GW in its current NECP plan.
