Retail Sales Volumes Set To Decline Again

AUSTRALIA DATA

Retail sales volumes for Q2 are released today and are expected to fall 0.5% q/q which would be the third straight quarterly contraction and leave them down 1.1% y/y. Estimates are broad between +0.5% and -0.8%. According to the monthly data, nominal sales rose 0.4% q/q. Using headline CPI to deflate them real sales fell 0.5%, with goods CPI -0.5% but with our proxy for retail prices -0.8%. Thus there may be a downside risk to consensus.
