RUSSIA: Putin Holds Talks With Vietnamese Counterpart, RUB Seen Strengthening

  • The ruble has been strengthening steadily against the US dollar, euro and yuan since sanctions were imposed on the Moscow Exchange Group a week ago, Vedomosti report. Without intervention by the authorities, the CNY/RUB will trade in the range of 10.00-11.00, while USD/RUB could fall as low as 71.00, the newspaper’s analysts said.
  • President Vladimir Putin is in Vietnam for talks today. He and his Vietnamese counterpart To Lam briefly spoke to each other after posing for photos before the start of their official talks. Following the talks, there will be a ceremony to exchange signed documents and the presidents will make statements to the press, according to Interfax.
  • North Korea and Russia agree to provide military and other assistance “without any delay, using all the means it has,” if one of the two sides is in a state of war due to an armed invasion by an individual state or several states, Bloomberg report citing North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency.
