Russia Seeking Kazakh Gasoline in Case of Shortage: Reuters

Russia has asked Kazakhstan to stand ready to provide 100k mt of gasoline in the event of shortage excacerbated by Ukrainian attacks on Russia’s refineries, according to Reuters.

  • A source told Reuters that the deal had already been agreed.
  • Belarus had already agreed to assist Russia in supplying gasoline.
  • Drone attacks have idled around 14% of Russia’s refining capacity, according to Reuters’ calculations.
  • Russia also has a ban on gasoline exports until August 31, excluding countries in the Eurasian-economic Union, but traders said the ban could be widened if the domestic situation worsens.
  • Kazakhstan also has restricted fuel exports until end-2024, barring humanitarian purposes.
  • Its stocks of Ai-92 and Ai-95 gasoline grades were 307.7k mt and 58k mt respectively as of April 5.
