Russia To Continue LNG Output Boost Despite US Sanctions

Russia will not halt its plans to boost LNG production to 100m mtpa due to US sanctions, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

  • "No one in our country is going to abandon large-scale plans for this project or for similar projects. The development of LNG infrastructure is our priority in the energy sector," Zakharova said.
  • A major entity in Russia’s Arctic-2 LNG project was targeted in the most recent US sanction package against Russia. The project aims to help boost Russia’s LNG production to 20% of the global market, compared to 8% currently.
  • Russia is looking to LNG as an alternative method to sell their natural gas as the European pipeline market is increasingly cut off.
