RUSSIA: Xi Says China Ready to Expand Ties With Russia: Xinhua

  • Chinese President Xi Jinping says he is willing to work with Russian President Putin to constantly expand all-round pragmatic cooperation between the two countries, Xinhua News Agency reports. The newspaper add that Xi and Putin exchanged congratulations on the 75th anniversary of establishing bilateral ties.
  • Foreign tourist traffic to Russia almost tripled year-on-year to a four-year high of 585,000 people in the first half of 2024, Vedomosti report. The growth was driven primarily by tourists from China, the number of which surged 800% to 302,000. Tourists from Turkmenistan and Turkey were a distant second, totalling 35,000 from each country, and Germany was third with 31,000.
  • Retail sales and unemployment rate data for August, real wage data for July and the final reading of Q2 GDP are all on the docket this afternoon (17:00BST/19:00 local time). Meanwhile, Russian delegation participate in an OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee meeting.
