Russian LNG Tankers Divert From Red Sea

Two Russian LNG tankers have been diverted away from the Red Sea on Monday after waiting at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal according to Bloomberg ship tracking.

  • One of the two laden tankers is controlled by Russia’s Yamal LNG export project.
  • The vessels had been waiting at the Suez entrance and were likely carrying gas destined for Asia.
  • So far in January, Russian LNG tankers continued to sail via the Red Sea. During 1-12 January, only five laden tankers passed through the Suez Canal and all were either from Qatar of Russia according to ICIS.
