RWE Urges German Government to Speed Up Power Plants Strategy

POWER

RWE urges the German government to speed up the delayed power plant strategy in order to start tenders for the 10GW of hydrogen-ready gas-fired plants this year, RWE CEO Markus Krebber told Montel.

  • “Time is running out for tenders this year, making them less likely. But if the auctions do not take place this year at the latest, we will not complete the planning and construction processes for new hydrogen-capable gas-fired power plants until beyond this decade”, Krebber said.
  • Germany is expected to present its delayed power plant strategy before the summer break, economic minister Robert Habeck said on Thursday, cited by Reuters.
  • "We are down to the small print," Habeck said.
  • "The EU Commission also wants to finish," he added.
  • The country plans to issue tenders for 10GW of hydrogen-ready gas-fired capacity.
  • First tenders are expected to take place later this year. All tenders are expected to be issued by 2026.
  • The delay was due to disagreements on subsides for future plants, Habeck said.
