Seasonally-Adjusted Sequential Core CPI Rises Most In 4 Months

GERMAN DATA

The Bundesbank’s estimate of seasonally-adjusted December CPI released this afternoon shows further progress on manufactured goods disinflation, but an uptick in services inflation.

  • Overall core inflation (CPI ex-energy/food) ticked up by 0.27% M/M, up from a flat 0.0% M/M in November.
  • The core reacceleration was driven by services at 0.18% M/M (the first acceleration since June, and vs 0.0% in November).
  • Manufactured goods ex-energy/food inflation came in a little softer at 0.17% M/M vs 0.26% in Nov, and clearly below the 0.32% average of the last 12 months.
  • The figures reinforce the narrative that sticky inflation in the services sector remains a key obstacle to ECB rate cuts.
