Sejm Debates Draft Abortion Bills, Fighter Jets Scrambled Amid Russian Strike On Ukraine

  • Parliament will today start debating four draft bills regulating the legality of abortion (two proposed by the Left, one by the Civic Coalition and one by the Third Way) which is set to divide partners from the national coalition. The issue returned to the political agenda when the Constitutional Tribunal in 2020 judged that the existing rules were inconsistent with the organic law, triggering the largest street protests since the collapse of communism.
  • Polish and Allied fighter jets were scrambled this morning as Russia launched another large-scale missile strike against targets across Ukraine as parts of its attempts to inflict damage on Kyiv's critical infrastructure. The Ukrainian authorities said that they detected missiles over Western regions bordering with Poland.
