Spain’s El Musel Receives First Commercial LNG Cargo

LNG

Spain’s El Musel LNG terminal received its first commercial cargo Friday following technical tests, Enegas said in a statement.

  • The shipment was delivered by the Gaslog Warsaw vessel.
  • Enegas said that commissioning of the LNG terminal in Northern Spain will strengthen the security of supply in Europe.
  • The El Musel terminal was mothballed in 2012 soon after construction due to a lack of demand but was reopened in 2022 amid the European energy crisis.
  • El Musel has the capacity to store 300,000 cubic metres of chilled, concentrated gas, and could process roughly 10 bcm/y, Enagas said.
  • Spain has six functioning LNG terminals, in addition to El Musel, but has limited pipeline capacity to pump it north to the continent's major consumers.
