Speaker Holownia To Decide Whether To Run For Presidency In Autumn, S&P M'fing PMI Eyed

POLAND
  • Sejm Speaker Szymon Holownia told Rzeczpospolita that he will decide whether to run in the 2025 presidential election in September or October. Holownia's decent showing in the 2020 presidential race (he garnered 13.9% of the vote) helped him enter the local political scene after a career as a television personality. There is speculation that Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski from the ruling Civic Coalition (KO) could also throw his hat into the ring next year, after narrowly losing to incumbent Andrzej Duda in 2020. The main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party has not yet indicated who could run as its candidate, as Duda will have reached the term limit.
  • Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski refused to unveil any details of the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle scheduled for May 10. PM Donald Tusk is expected to replace ministers standing as candidates in the European election.
  • Onet reported that three former members of state-controlled oil company Orlen aare currently abroad, as Polish prosecutors are conducting at least six investigations into their alleged transgressions.
  • Poland's S&P Global Manufacturing PMI may have slipped to 47.9 in April from 48.0 prior, according to a Bloomberg survey of analysts. The data will be released at 08:00BST/09:00CEST.
