State Tribunal Members Petition Chair, Manufacturing PMI On Tap

POLAND
  • Gazeta Wyborcza reported that a group of members of the Tribunal of State asked the body's chair (a seat filled ex officio by chief justice of the Supreme Court) to change the rules of procedure. They want members considering a particular case to be picked by lot rather than chosen unilaterally by the chair. Under the existing rules, the chair could choose a line-up dominated members nominated by the former ruling party Law and Justice (PiS), which could prevent the Tribunal from sentencing NBP Governor Adam Glapinski, should a parliamentary committee decide to refer his case to the judicial body.
  • A United Surveys poll for WP.pl showed that around two-thirds of Poles are against entering the adoption of the euro (49.4% "strongly against" and 17.4% "probably against"). There is little enthusiasm for entering the eurozone even among the supporters of the pro-EU ruling coalition, with just 37% of them in favour of the idea and 52% against.
  • Rzeczpospolita reported that several senior ministers may soon leave PM Donald Tusk's Cabinet, with some planning to run in the European election. Some of the ministers that may be replaced include State Assets Minister Borys Budka, Culture Minister Barlomiej Sienkiewicz or Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Siekierski, who have taken on key tasks during the initial phase of the new government's tenure.
  • Poland's S&P Global Manufacturing PMI will cross the wires at 08:00BST/09:00CEST. The index may have stayed unchanged at 47.9 in March, according to Bloomberg's poll of economists.
