Steady Y/Y Core Eurozone Inflation Obscures M/M Rise... (1/2)

From MNI's Eurozone Inflation Insight out today: the ECB's estimates of seasonally adjusted Eurozone July inflation figures out yesterday show a notable month/month core pickup that is slightly obscured by the static Y/Y figures (core HICP was 5.5%, unchanged from June).

  • The headline HICP rate accelerated to 0.4% M/M (highest since February) vs 0.3% in June. That's a big divergence in the series vs the more widely circulated Eurostat reading of -0.1% M/M which is on a non-SA basis (and the lowest monthly reading since January).
  • Per the ECB’s seasonally-adjusted figures provided separately to the official Eurostat data, M/M core and services inflation looks to have remained steady at a high rate in July at 0.44% / 0.38% (were 0.36% M/M and 0.45% respectively in June, per ECB estimates)..
