Summary Continued - Ecuador Trade Talks, Maduro Speaks

LATAM

Chile - Chile Central Bank left its policy rate unchanged as expected at 0.5%.

  • Guidance was maintained on leaving the rate at the lower bound for the near future, with outlooks noting "inflation pressures remain contained the medium-term."
  • The Board noted that November's CPI came below expectations and partly offset two months of surprises in the opposite direction.
  • The board highlighted the upcoming increase in pandemic restrictions, noting how it may impact the recovery but also how it should negate stricter measures down the line.

COLOMBIA - Carrasquilla told reporter that it's a possibility he moves to the central bank. Interesting comment just days before we should find out Governor Echavarria's replacement. He also added that the government doesn't have any plans to privatize assets.

PERU - Economy Minster Mendoza was on the wires inflating hope as coronavirus cases fall. The Government may raise their economic growth projection for 2021 from the current forecast of 10%.

ECUADOR - United States Trade Representative Lighthizer and Ecuador's Trade Minister Ivan Ontaneda to sign preliminary agreement paving way for free trade negotiations under next administrations.

VENEZUELA - Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro holds press conference in Caracas.
